🏛️ Town Rank & Progression

The complete Town Rank ladder — every rank's unlock, the town repair chain with full material costs, museum renown, backpack upgrades, and what to prioritize at each stage.

How Town Rank Works

Town Rank is Mistria's master progression axis. Almost everything you do — completing quests, shipping items, donating to the Museum — pays out Renown points. Those points fill a Renown Level (1–100 in v1.0), and every ten levels you cross a new Rank name, from Wood at the start to Mistril at 100. Each level costs progressively more: level 1 needs 20 points, level 100 needs 356, for a cumulative 18,006 points to max the track. Story quests mostly pay 20 Renown each — the last three repair quests pay 50 — and the weekly Crown Requests that open at Rank 50 typically pay 75: the best single source in the game. Every level's reward waits in the chest beside the Request Board.

💡 Two different numbers share the word "Renown": your Renown Level (1–100) is the ladder, Renown points are the currency that climbs it. Rank names change every ten levels.

The Rank Ladder: What Unlocks When

Each rank spans ten Renown Levels. The structural unlocks cluster at the bottom and the top of the ladder — the middle (Iron) is a quiet stretch where you are mostly accumulating.

RankRenown LevelsKey Unlock
Wood0–9Starting rank — quests, shipping, donations
Stone10–19The Mines reopen (Lv 10, Errol's letter)
Copper20–29"Lost and Found" quest → weekly Lost & Found chest (Lv 20)

Gold80–89"Expand the Saturday Market" quest (Lv 80)

💡 At Lv 10, meet Errol and Eiland at the mine entrance (upper-left of the Museum) to reopen the Mines — go with a sword and healing food.

Level Rewards: Stamina, Outfits, Furniture

Every Renown Level pays a chest reward next to the Request Board. Most levels are Purses of Tesserae, but the ladder hides permanent power and five full cosmetic sets. The Stamina Ups at every tenth level through 70 are the real prize — seven permanent max-stamina raises for doing what you were doing anyway.

LevelsReward
10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70Stamina Up — permanent max-stamina increase
2–8Adventurer outfit set (hood, jerkin, pants, boots)
12–19Stone furniture set + recipes (bench, chest, lamp, table)
22–28Ranger outfit set (jacket, top, boots, hair clips)
32–39Mistria furniture set + recipes (wall map, history book, fountain)
42–48Caldosian Traveler outfit set
52–59Cottage Garden furniture set + recipes
62–69Noble outfit set (cape, jacket, boots, tunic, hat)
71–78Emerald furniture set + recipes (bed, wallpaper, rug)
81–88Exalted outfit set, ending in the Exalted Crown
79, 89, 100Large Essence Stone
95, 97, 99Golden Treasure Box

💡 The stamina cutoff matters: the last Stamina Up lands at Lv 70, so Emerald-through-Mistril chests are mostly cosmetics and furniture.

The Town Repair Chain

Adeline's restoration line is the backbone of the story, and it is gated two ways. The early projects simply arrive as letters in sequence; everything from the Stone Refinery onward also demands a minimum Town Rank. Materials go into a Donation Box at the site, then you hand Adeline the cash. Budget for both — early stages want raw wood and stone, but the Inn and every rank-gated upgrade draw on refined and mined goods.

💡 From Rank 55 onward the chain stacks a rank gate on top of the quest gate — if Adeline's letters stop, it is almost always your Renown Level holding up the next project, not a missing material.

Museum Donations Feed Your Rank

The Museum is the quiet engine of Town Rank. It accepts donations from Spring 1 — the day before Errol's letter even arrives — and every donation pays Tesserae and Renown, making it one of the three steady renown channels alongside shipping and quests. The collection splits into four wings (Archaeology, Fish, Flora, Insects), each divided into sets of about five specific items; the Archaeology wing alone has 22 sets. Rewards are counted per wing by sets completed: the first set in each wing pays a Wooden Treasure Box plus an outfit hat, and the tiers climb through Copper, Silver, and Gold boxes containing the exclusive Explorer, Fishing, Farmer, and Beekeeper outfit lines and matching furniture.

  • Donate before you sell: hover an item and check the corner icon — a museum building means the collection wants it (our Money guide covers the full tip).
  • Sets need specific listed items, not categories — a set only completes when every item on its list is donated.
  • Some cooking recipes arrive only through museum donations or the first shipment of an item, so first-catch and first-forage finds are worth more than their sale price.
  • Fish and artifact sets fill naturally while you fish and mine, so the museum grows alongside systems you are running anyway.

Backpack Upgrades

You start with 10 slots and can double then triple them. Both upgrades are sold at the General Store; the second appears only once the store itself is repaired — a quest gate from the repair chain above, not a raw Town Rank number. Each upgrade also adds a 10-slot toolbar tab you flip with the bracket keys.

💡 The first 1,000 Tesserae you save should go to the Basic Pouch — 20 slots improves every activity in the game, mines included.

Mines Seals and Town Rank

The Mines sit directly on the rank ladder. At Renown Level 10 (Stone), Errol mails you to reopen the entrance — meet him and Eiland at the mine mouth with a sword and healing food. From there the seal storyline runs on mine depth, not rank: tablets appear at floors 20, 40, and 60, breaking the Water, Earth, and Fire seals in order — each a story quest worth 20 Renown that also teaches a spell; the fourth and final seal at floor 80 has no tablet and instead runs through the "Creating The Void Mass" and "Breaking The Ruins Seal" quests started by the Priestess — so deep mining quietly refunds itself into Town Rank. The two systems touch again at Rank 55, where the Stone Refinery repair quest upgrades the mines' entrance area. For the seal-by-seal walkthrough, the complete Mining perk tree, and the five-floors-a-day pacing argument, see our full Mines guide.

Priority Order by Rank

The cross-system view the individual systems pages can't give you — what to be doing while each rank band is live:

  • Spring 3: hold 60 Wood and 60 Stone for Adeline's bridge letter — the Saturday Market is too valuable to slip a week.
  • Wood through Stone: clear every Request Board errand and donate each new item; Lv 10 and the Mines arrive quickly.
  • Copper and Ruby: the Lost & Found chest (Lv 20) makes dropped loot a non-issue; terrariums (Lv 30) start producing pheromones and bait.
  • Sapphire and beyond: never skip the weekly Crown Request — 75 Renown is nearly four story quests' worth from one delivery.
  • Silver onward: pre-stockpile Refined Stone, Crystal, Glass, and Obsidian, later Voidite and Mistril Ingots — every rank-gated repair draws from the same refined pool.
  • The Stamina Ups at every tenth level through 70 reward steady daily renown over bursts — ship and donate daily rather than in binges.
