📅 Basics
When did it release?
Early Access launched on Steam on 2024-08-05. The 1.0 full release is 2026-08-05, two years after EA.
Who developed it?
NPC Studio (a Chicago indie studio founded in 2019; this is their first game). Co-directors / designers are Claire Belton and Andrew Duff, who previously created Pusheen (the cartoon cat). Inspirations include Harvest Moon, Rune Factory, Story of Seasons, Animal Crossing, and Stardew Valley; visuals are influenced by Sailor Moon. It is described as a spiritual successor to Harvest Moon. Engine: GameMaker.
What is the price?
1.0 does not raise the price (officially confirmed) and continues the EA price. Reference: France €13.79 (10% launch discount €12.41 until 2026-08-13); other regions follow Steam regional pricing.
💾 Saves
Does 1.0 require a new save?
No — all EA saves fully carry over. Regardless of how far you have progressed, you can experience all of the new 1.0 content.
Will achievements need re-grinding?
No — achievements are retroactive. Completed relevant content automatically grants achievements; no new save is required.
Are multiple saves supported?
Yes — you can have multiple independent save files (players often run multiple characters / farms).
Where is the save file located?
Windows: %LocalAppData%\FieldsOfMistria\saves. You can import it into mistria.app for tracking.
🎮 Platforms
Which platforms is it on?
Windows PC + Steam Deck (officially Steam Deck Verified, with native SteamOS support).
Will it come to PS5 / Xbox / Switch?
No console version is confirmed yet. Officially: "currently focused on PC 1.0, will evaluate ports in the future, stay tuned" — not a no, just not committed at the 1.0 stage (Siliconera reads Switch / Switch 2 / PS5 as still possible in the future).
Is controller supported?
Steam Deck Verified implies controller-friendliness; specific Xbox / PS controller button mappings are not listed in the official FAQ — check in-game settings. Default keyboard / mouse: [ ] switches toolbar, Q picks up 1, R rotates, ESC opens the Journal, etc.
🌐 Languages
Which languages are supported?
1.0 launches with 7 Beta localizations: Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, French, Japanese, Korean, Russian, and Spanish. Official notes more languages may be added later.
What does "Beta localization" mean?
1.0 gameplay and content are fully open for all languages, but translated text (especially endgame content) may be missing or incomplete — untranslated parts temporarily display in English. Example: the French version is about 75% complete (univers-simu). Players wanting a complete translation experience can wait for later localization updates.
💍 Romance
Are marriage candidates gender-locked?
No — all 12 candidates can be romanced and married in any gender combination (LGBTQA+).
Can you choose pronouns?
Yes, including they/them and several others.
Can you divorce?
No — the official wiki states "As of version 1.0, there is no Divorce mechanic".
What happens if I am dating multiple people before marriage?
Other romance interests automatically convert to "Best Friends" status and are no longer romantic relationships. In 1.0 you can turn off the related breakup letters and dialogue prompts (in the gameplay settings after the engagement tutorial cutscene).
Do I have to have children?
Optional — when the Mystical Feather cutscene triggers after marriage, the player has full control over whether to have children.
Can I collect all candidates' engagement gifts?
Yes — at the proposal the partner gives a unique item, and you can receive it without marrying. You can cycle through candidates up to the proposal cutscene to collect all 12 items.
🎲 Multiplayer
Is there co-op multiplayer?
No — Fields of Mistria is strictly single-player. Unlike Stardew Valley 1.6 (up to 8-player co-op), the official FAQ mentions no multiplayer plans.
🌱 Content
Will there be updates after 1.0?
Yes — officially "planning for additional content updates and patches after 1.0".
Roughly how many hours of gameplay?
Player community reports vary widely: 60–400 hours depending on completion goals and perfectionism. Reddit players commonly start around 60–70 hours; deep players reach 270+ hours.
Is modding supported?
Wikipedia notes the game supports modding (e.g. changing villager appearances). The specific mod ecosystem and level of official support are not deeply covered here — check communities like Nexus Mods.
What did 1.0 add versus EA?
Marriage / weddings / children / 10-heart proposals / house appearance customization / new Saturday merchants (Stillwell + Zorel) / new perks / new furniture sets / museum completion / multi-language support / Steam achievements, and more.
🆚 vs Stardew Valley
How does Fields of Mistria differ from Stardew Valley?
FoM combines pixel art with shoujo manga aesthetics (Sailor Moon influence), features a magic system (dragons, spells, Essence), and a more relaxed pace. Stardew Valley is pure pixel, has multiplayer (up to 8), and no magic. Both support pronouns and same-sex marriage. FoM is not a Stardew clone — the core differences are the magic system, the shoujo aesthetics, and the relaxed pace. See the comparison table below.
🐛 Feedback
What if I encounter a bug or want to make a suggestion?
There is an official Feedback & Bugs page (fieldsofmistria.com) with troubleshooting tips and a report form. In the 1.0 patch notes, changes marked with 🌼 were driven by community feedback.
