⭐ Legendary Fish Guide
4 legendary fish, one per season. Each save file gets only 1 of each — donate to museum.
Unlock Requirement
Fishing Lv30 + Legendary skill (Tier 3, 80 Essence), unlocked at the Caldarus statue on the farm.
💡 Escapist recommends unlocking the Legendary skill before Year 2 begins — first-year players are unlikely to collect all four in time.
Trigger
When the correct season + weather are both met, the day starts with an "A legendary fish is nearby..." prompt along with that fish's silhouette, shown beneath the calendar date and birthday notes.
The 4 Legendary Fish
| Fish | Season | Weather | Size | Water | Best Spot |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 🌸 Cherry Fish | Spring | Windy | Small (target the smallest shadows, ignore larger ones) | Pond | The large pond east of town (Escapist); alternative is the small pond beside the Manor House. |
| ⚡ Lightning Fish | Summer | Storm / Thunderstorm (some players report plain Rain works; storms are the most reliable) | Medium | River | The western river at The Narrows — the stretch under the bridge south of the museum and Errol's cabin (Escapist / GameRant). In-town river or farm river are alternatives. |
| 🍂 Leaf Fish | Fall | Windy (falling leaves) | Small | River | The river at The Eastern Road, around the bridge-repair spot (GameRant). |
| ❄️ Snow Fish | Winter | Snow / Blizzard | Medium | Ocean (Beach) | The Beach — Escapist recommends swimming across the sea to the western islet for cleaner spawns. |
Strategy
- Watch the prompt and don't hesitate — when "A legendary fish is nearby" appears, drop other plans and head to the matching water body; the weather window may only last that one day.
- Filter shadows by size — Cherry Fish and Leaf Fish are Small (target the smallest shadows); Lightning Fish and Snow Fish are Medium.
- Wait on the weather — Windy / Storm / Snow aren't everyday events. Use the Weather Crystal Ball (rewarded from Juniper's quest) to plan ahead.
- Snow Fish: swim to the western islet — the beach shore has mixed fish; the islet waters are cleaner and Snow Fish is easier to encounter there.
- Lightning Fish: head to The Narrows — close to the museum, and the bridge stretch makes shadows easy to identify.
- Bring a good rod — Silver and Gold rods cast 12–14 tiles, making it easier to reach distant legendary shadows.
- Be patient — legendary fish may nibble several times before truly biting; don't reel in too early.
Restrictions
| Rule | Detail |
|---|---|
| Only 1 per save per species | Since v0.12.0 — any extra legendary fish of the same kind is removed by the system. |
| Only 1 per day | Since v0.14.2 — closes the Lucky Haul / School Crasher loophole that allowed multiple legendaries in one day. |
| Cannot enter a Fish Trap | Since v0.15.2. |
| Cannot be placed in the home aquarium | Confirmed by GameRant playtesting. |
| Cannot be sold | Current versions (including 1.0) — the only valid use is donating to the Museum. Early wiki text hinted at a 500t low sell price, but newer GameRant / Steam testing states "You can't sell Legendary Fish"; the wiki/Fish 500t figure is treated as legacy data. |
💡 Donate to museum — the ONLY correct choice. Cannot sell, cannot place in aquarium.
Museum Reward
Donate all four to the Museum's Fish Wing Legendary Fish Set to complete it. Completing the set grants a piece of furniture + its matching recipe, plus a Treasure Box whose quality scales with the total number of Fish Sets you have completed. Donating is the only correct choice — it secures the Legendary Set and avoids wasting your one-per-save copy.
